Bowling at Sunnybrook lanes on 2/22/09, Billy Eller and Autumn Townsend captured 1st place, in the State, for the JV High School Singles Championships. They competed against 400+ kids from all over the State for their titles. My interviews of them are right below.
Autumn, a sophmore at Waterford Kettering High School, has been bowling since she was three years old, where she started on the "bumpers" at Airway. She is presently bowling in our saturday morning Juniors bowling program, besides being in her 2nd year on the Kettering Bowling Team. She was the high qualifier in the tournament, and with her 168 average, rolled games of 231, 179, 170, 131 (??), 216 and 215. The last two were in the head to head match play. Autumn was using a Track Inertia bowling ball. When I spoke to her, she was still glowing from her well earned achievement.
Billy Eller has been bowling since age 7. This is his first year on the Kettering JV team, and carries a 3.7 GPA. Besides bowling, he also plays baseball in the waterford Coaches Assn. league, where he is predominantly a pitcher. He credits his success at the tournament to his coach's, Rich Kidwell and Ed Manning, Jr., saying that they were giving him tips during the event that "Helped quite a bit. If they had not been their, I would not have won". Besides baseball and bowling, he also works in Dad's Deli, for his father, Larry, and mother, Sue, at Arway Lanes. He averages 170's in the Arway Sunday Majors league. He just got a new ball from Howie, in Pro Am II, Hammer "Hat Sauce" and has been on fire ever since, "bowling some pretty big games with that ball". Billy stated that he bowled the best he ever bowled in his live, averaging 232 for the 5 qualifying games and the 3 match play games.
