Pictured to the left is first year bowler, Taveon Travis. Taveon is a natural at the game, but you would not be able to tell by the scores of his first week in the Airway Tiger League - an adult/youth league. At the end of week one, Taveon had a series of 21. That type of score would be very discouraging to most youngsters, especially when the next oldest youngster was about 11 years older! But not Taveon. With the help of his coach - and Grandpa - Bill Bruce, Taveon was starting to keep the ball on the lane more and more often. When Taveon converted his first (ever) spare, the rest of the league members, and Airway staff, were cheering - LOUDLY! When Taveon got his first strike - the place went wild with cheering.
As Bill saw Taveon starting to get better, he decided he needed to "incentivize" the situation. I am unsure as to where Bill was setting the bar, but if Taveon reached that goal, Bill promised him his own bowling equipment. Taveon responded so well, boasting a high game of 70 and high series of 177, that he now has his own ball, bag and shoes. All earned independantly, mind you. Dont' be surprised if, by the middle of the fall season, Grampa has to spring for an 8 ball bowling bag, adjustable slide shoes, a couple of wrist gloves, etc. I can just picture it :)

Sienna and her "horse"!
In her fathers own words, John describes Sienna at the end of the year banquet: Picture is of Sienna Sahajdack. She participated in the Saturday morning 11:00am Transitionals league. She was very excited winning the stuffed horse, she has been very lucky last season. She won a big stuffed dog. She really loves to bowl.
Speaking of bowling, there is a great youth travel league in the area -- the "Ward Travel league". More info is available at http://www.wardtravelleague.com/
