Mi Womens State Tournament
Sheryle & Nikki
Pictured here are Sheryle & Nikki.  Sheryle has consistantly brought large squads to this tournament.  This year - 80 women - 16 teams - the largest in the State.  She usually has the largest squad for this event.

Most of the reason for her success with this Tournament is that bowling isn't the main reason the women come to it.  If they bowl well, then, "bonus", but it is the cameraderie all of these people experience when out of town.

There are three rules:
1) No men,
2) No children,
3) Read rules 1 & 2.

She already has the squad booked for next year.  It is in Grand Rapids, April 14th & 15th.  She is collecting entry fees now, and has quote a few already.  If you are interested in participating - whether or not you have a team -- call her at Airway!

To the left, we have two more photo's from that Womens State Bowling Tournament - the 2011 edition.  The top photo is a team from our Airway Jets Ladies League.  The team consists of Mary Lewis, Ashley Haines, Cindy Holmyard, Kim Heckman and Nicole Kirkpatrick.  Their shirts were unique in the fact that four of the women had pins on their chests - 10 in all - a "full rack" according to Cindy, and Kim had the ball to make the strike or spare.  Another good vote getter -- but not the winner.

The winning team, based on style, originality and creativity went to the Debbie Schippa "Kamikazee" team, from the Airway Gutter Dusters.  The women on the team (L to R) are Belemy Dilbeck, Rhonda Cundiff, Debbie Schippa, Karen Brouwer and Debbie LaClair.  In a vote conducted by Sheryle, their team came in first place for the most creativity.  The creativity was pretty good, because Rhonda (MI) was stuck between two Ka Ka's.  However, ALL of the men on Tuesday night think they won because of Debbie's double E's?

If you click on thepictures, they will expand.

Canton/Livonia will never be the same.  Sheryle, again, took the largest squad in the State this year - 80 women - a little over 1% of all the tournament entries.  There were some awesome scores - Linda June's 290 comes to mind, as does Mary McKinstry's 734 w/hdcp.
Airway Women also did very well in the squad prizes, winning many of the house mystery games and jack pots.  Kristy Kaer & Amber Bratton were even giving bowling lessons at Super Bowl on Sunday.  Chastity Sherman took 7 of the squad jackpots, and some of the tournament ones as well.  Linda June was next with 4 jackpots.
some of the women commuted as it was near home this year.  They were there for the bowling.  The rest, that weren't particularly there for the bowling, stayed at the Marriott in Canton.  One team, however, decided to pull up stakes, so to speak, and move to the Holiday Inn at 1:00am because the TV in their room did not work and they wanted to REALLY watch the Tiger's game.  The Marriott even offered to have them chauffered, but they graciously turned down the offer.
I know that when Sheryle got home, she was pretty tired - but then, she was not feeling well when she left.  Sheila Kaer, on the other hand, was still dragging on Wednesday.  She was better in the evening though.
One highlight of the tournament was the "Great Bowling Shirt Contest of 2011".  The final vote has not been taken yet.  It was supposed to be voted on last Tuesday, but everyone forgot, as they were, mostly, still struggling to stay awake!  The vote will be the coming Tuesday.  Below are pics of Ivy Pullis's team shirts.  More may come later!
